Infinite Confusion

Yes, "Infinite Confusion" fits this post nicely.
("Infinite Confusion" is a spell of the concept game ProgressQuest)
After the Chile earthquake, NASA said that the quake should have shortened the length of an Earth day by about 1.26 microseconds.
Let's have a look at how did French medias translate this fact:
la Terre tourne moins vite sur elle-même, et les jours sont plus courts.
which could be translated into:
Earth self rotation speed has decreased, and days are shorter.
That when the Infinite Confusion occurs.

All we are is dust in the wind

I live in a place that's known to be windy.
Well, people tend to always exaggerate (I know what I'm talking about).
But this place is really windy.

Ever try to run with such a blast in your face?

Villefranche du Lauragais officially has only average 68 days per year without wind.
That's right

(that's totally out of the scope, but Scorpions' acoustic version of Dust in the wind simply rocks)
(too bad for my amazon basket)

BSG & philosophy: some reflexions

While reading Battlestar Galactica and Philosophy: Mission Accomplished or Mission Frakked Up? (gosh, what a title), some sentences make me react.
Here is my best of so far:

  • Choices construct your identity: you are whom you act.
    That I agree with.
That's why assholes will ever be assholes: there's no forgiveness for twats.
And that's also why being a fair guy is a daily challenge.
  • I choose what to post online because it is how I want to reflect myself, not because it describes the core of my being. There could even not be a stable "core of my being".
    Huh, that's at least disturbing.
This time I do not agree at all, what I post here is what I am.
Ah shit, now I'm invaded by doubt...
Ok, now what was the last time I saw my stable core of my being?
  • Sartre said: "existence precedes essence".
Hey, this statement's so crystal clear that I won't comment it.
The remaining question is, as I do exist, have I already reached the essence stage?
(I think Jean-Paul was saying such things just because that was the way he wanted to reflect himself)
(Poor guy, Tylenol hadn't been invented yet when he was raving this way)
So, am I what I read or do I read this book to appear the way I want?

The game that awakes the Viking in me

Trine is a little very cute puzzle game, ideal for a snowy cold Sunday.
It's a kind of a tribute to a 1992 (oh my) old game, The Lost Vikings.
Same spirit, better look, nice use of physics and an awesome background music that gets into your brain and never vanishes.
If it's good for me, it could be good for you as well
Now go & get it!

Determinism vs Randomness

"Had a few different cards been dealt, I could ..." When I read that sentence yesterday evening in my bed, as good my novel is (and it is), I stopped and looked at my ceiling (it's a beautiful one, I painted it myself). As every time I come across similar sentences, I thought of the old fight between determinism and randomness. When I was younger, I once came to the conclusion that:

Randomness does not exist. It only describes our inability to embrace the complexity of the universe. By knowing at a given moment every particle position and speed, we could simply foresee the future.

Yes, I know, I already talked about Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, which destroys this theory I thought was mine (cf my rule#6 previous post).
I always wondered why no one ever thought of that before me... Well today, thanks again Wikipedia, I found out that this theory of mine... is in fact not mine at all. Or at least I wasn't the first

Check your six!

What a better game than Wings of Prey to test my new X52?
Let's unplug the phone and defend London!

We shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, (...) we shall never surrender!

Rule#6

A quite clever man, by the name of Werner Heisenberg, once stated that one cannot simultaneously know the position and the speed of a given particle.
Being quite a fair particle, I assume I could transpose this to myself, at a human level.
It'd give something like: I can know either where I am or where I'm going, but not both.
Considering the fact that I precisely know where I currently am (E 01°30'55" - N 43°32'24" seems quite accurate to me), it means that I'll never know where I'm going.
And the only time I could know that will be when I don't know my whereabouts.
That's ... quite disturbing.
So, here's today's rule:

If you want to know what tomorrow will be, get lost.

All complains about this unfriendly rule should be forwarded to Mr Heisenberg himself.
Unfortunately, he doesn't read his mails since 1976, Feb 1st.
In fact, he hasn't read anything at all since then, because he died that day.
Being now forever still, he has thus reached the ultimate state where he knows both his position and his future.
As usual, everything comes with a price.

Help change a life

Ever heard of Kiva?
Kiva is a person-to-person micro-lending website.
Everyone can do it. I did. Why don't you?

Rule#5

One must not get irritated, early in the morning, in the shower.
It's really no use.

In the shower, no one can hear you scream.

At least I'm clean.

It tastes like Battlestar Galactica

... but it's Caprica.
Caprica is a prequel for the acclaimed BSG show.
At first I thought I wasn't going to like this show, I even intended not to look at the pilot.
But I gave it a try.
None of BSG's characters appear, the story takes place 58 years earlier, and the first five minutes are... at least let's say disturbing.
Well, 90 minutes later, Caprica is full of promises, and there are quite a lot of strong links with the BSG storyline. In fact, I think I'm gonna love that show very much
The good news is Caprica is airing on Syfy on January 22, 2010.
The bad one is that with such a time line, there's no hope of seeing Kara Thrace again

So say we all!
